Poland is on the verge of launching its first full-stack quantum computer, named Spark, in collaboration with IQM, a leading Finnish quantum hardware startup. Located at Wrocław University of Science and Technology, this superconducting quantum computer will employ qubits and function at ultra-low temperatures. Although Spark features only five qubits and lacks the ability to surpass classical computers in performance, it serves as a critical platform for researchers to engage with quantum computing, offering students invaluable hands-on programming opportunities and fostering the development of IT expertise in quantum technologies.
"This is the first quantum computer in our country and Eastern Europe using low-temperature superconducting qubit technology," said Professor Wojciech Bożejko, head of WUST's faculty of ICT.
"The system will offer students in Poland direct access to the actual quantum computer for practical programming in quantum computing," said Bożejko. "Our goal is to conduct research and educate IT specialists."
