The EU elections involve citizens voting for candidates within their own countries, but Volt aims to challenge this with a transnational candidate list and MEPs. The transnational college concept was proposed in 2022 but not adopted by EU governments.
Despite the possibility for any EU citizen to stand as a candidate in a different country, the upcoming 2024 elections will still follow the traditional process with MEPs elected from national lists.
