Bo Rothstein, co-founder of the Quality of Government Institute, asserts that while Sweden has evolved into a multicultural society over 40 years, general trust among its population remains unchanged. The World Values Survey indicated no significant change in trust levels since 2004. The Trust Barometer showed stability in trust levels: 35% trust the government, 75% trust the police, and 65% trust the tax agency, reflecting a steady trend, particularly with high trust in the alcohol monopoly Systembolaget.
I usually say that trust if you think that most other people can be trusted is the most boring thing you can measure... Trust in other people, as it can be measured, doesn't change.
The findings largely confirm Rothstein's claims about the stability of trust, with 35 percent of respondents saying they trust the government, slightly above the average level recorded between 2015 and 2020.
