Sweden: Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom steps down DW 09/04/2024
Briefly

"It is with a mixture of sadness and pride that I have today informed the prime minister that I will leave the post of foreign minister at the opening of parliament next week," Billstrom said in a post on X. His resignation marks a significant transition for Swedish foreign policy, especially given Sweden's recent shift towards NATO inclusion.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson wished Billstrom well in his "future endeavors," acknowledging the substantial changes made to Swedish foreign policy under Billstrom's leadership, particularly the shift away from two centuries of military non-alignment.
Billstrom stated, "For my part, I will now leave politics entirely. This means that I am also leaving my parliamentary seat," indicating his intention to step away from the political landscape at this juncture of his career.
He added, "What I will do next is still open. But I am only 50 years old and I look forward to contributing and working hard in other contexts," suggesting a readiness for new challenges outside of politics.
