This requirement aims to enhance consumer protection and product safety standards but has caught many businesses off guard. The new rules also impact Northern Ireland due to its agreement with the EU, affecting sales for companies unprepared for the sudden changes.
The EU brought in its general product safety regulation (GPSR) on 13 December, designed to improve safety standards, especially for online products from third countries.
It was suddenly sprung on us without much announcement, says Roger Holden, who has run Skye Weavers with his wife for over a decade.
