Jeffrey Donaldson, leader of the Democratic Unionist Party and one of Northern Ireland's most prominent politicians, resigned his leadership following charges of a historical nature.
The D.U.P. announced the suspension of Mr. Donaldson as a party member pending a judicial process after receiving a letter confirming the charges.
