The author recounts her transition from the US to Kosovo, initially enchanted by Eastern Europe's community and culture. Following personal loss, she embraced the opportunity to fulfill her long-held dream of residing abroad. As she acclimated to life in Kosovo, she recognized the beauty in her American roots, particularly its values of liberty and inclusion. This reflection brought a deeper understanding of home, showing that sometimes leaving one’s birthplace can illuminate its unique beauty and significance, thereby enriching one's perspective on both cultures.
