The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI) has raised alarms about parts of the Tido Agreement, which might exacerbate feelings of exclusion among migrants in Sweden. While praising Sweden for advancements like criminalizing Holocaust denial and improving hate crime investigations, ECRI pointed out shortcomings in education, particularly regarding teachers' preparedness to teach about racism. Gaps in Sweden's legal framework, such as the absence of sex as a protected characteristic in the Discrimination Act, were also highlighted, along with the concerning statistics showing that Black individuals are often victims of hate crimes.
ECRI warned that some aspects of the Tido Agreement could exacerbate feelings of marginalization among migrants, despite Sweden's positive steps in recent years.
The report notes significant shortcomings in teachers' abilities to address racism and intolerance within classrooms, highlighting broader societal conflicts influencing these issues.
