The Venezuelan government has detained three American citizens, two Spaniards, and a Czech national for allegedly plotting to destabilize the nation amid rising tensions over disputed election results.
Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello claimed the detainees were involved in plans to assassinate President Maduro and had links to terrorist acts, escalating tensions with Western nations.
Cabello also noted that the allegations against the detained Spaniards included having connections to Spain's secret service, while the Spanish government emphatically denied these claims.
The recent arrests have prompted international concern, particularly from the U.S., which acknowledged detaining one of its military members while denying involvement in any destabilization attempts.
