Nearly 4,000 residents have been evacuated from western Turkey as wildfires sweep through the region, igniting concerns over climate change and extreme weather patterns.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that 900 residents were evacuated overnight from five districts in Izmir, reflecting the urgency of the wildfire situation.
According to Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli, about 1,600 hectares have been affected by the wildfires in Turkey, with multiple homes and workplaces evacuated.
The disaster management agency reported six arrests for alleged sabotage amid the wildfires, highlighting potential criminal activity in addition to natural causes.
