Sammie Szmodics, a midfielder for the Republic of Ireland, was hospitalized following a collision with Czech Republic defender Stephan Chaloupek that left him unconscious. The incident occurred late in extra time after Szmodics had just entered the match as a substitute. Republic of Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson confirmed that Szmodics regained consciousness and is undergoing tests. The team had initially led 2-0 but lost the match on penalties after a late equalizer from the Czech Republic.
