Witnesses reported a higher casualty figure than IS mentioned, indicating the toll could be more severe. The Amaq report noted "more than 45" casualties.
The IS-Khorasan branch has intensified attacks since the Taliban’s takeover in August 2021, focusing on Taliban officials and minority communities like the Shi'ite Hazaras.
In claiming the attack, IS aimed to highlight vulnerabilities within the Taliban regime, particularly by targeting government offices and personnel involved in prosecutions.
