Huawei is embroiled in a new scandal in Europe, involving allegations of bribery aimed at European Parliament members to secure favorable treatment. Following its ban from the U.S. market, the company appears to be worried about similar actions in Europe, where some nations are beginning to phase out its telecommunications equipment. A major corruption investigation, codenamed 'Generation,' led by Belgian police, has raided multiple addresses tied to Huawei and its lobbyists, focusing on potential bribery and other criminal activities involving lawmakers.
According to a report by Follow the Money (FTM), an investigative news outfit based in the Netherlands, Belgian police this morning raided 21 addresses across Belgium and Portugal as part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
The probe has been going on for more than two years and is focused on allegations that Huawei lobbyists paid MEPs in exchange for gaining their support in Parliament.
