Belgian police have raided multiple locations amid an investigation into corruption allegedly linked to Chinese tech giant Huawei. Prosecutors claim the corruption occurred under the pretense of commercial lobbying since 2021 and involved bribery of European Parliament members. Several individuals were detained, and raids also extended to France and Portugal. The investigation is focused on active corruption, forgery, and the misuse of documents. Huawei has expressed its commitment to addressing the allegations seriously and maintaining compliance with laws.
According to officials, an address in Portugal was also searched by local police, while in France, one person was arrested.
The Belgian prosecutor's office said: "Corruption was allegedly practised regularly and very discreetly from 2021 to the present day, under the guise of commercial lobbying..."
