A Moscow court rejected US reporter Evan Gershkovich's latest appeal against pre-trial detention, arrested on spying charges and facing up to 20 years in prison.
32-year-old Gershkovich has been imprisoned in Moscow's harsh Lefortovo prison for over a year without trial, with no evidence provided by Russian authorities on espionage claims.
Gershkovich, a US national, denies espionage charges that the US government also refutes, marking the first case of a journalist arrested on such accusations since the Cold War.
The journalist, who was working for The Moscow Times before joining The Wall Street Journal, awaits trial as his pre-trial detention is extended until June 30.
