Outgoing European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has proposed suspending political dialogue with Israel, citing concerns over violations of human rights and international humanitarian law in Gaza.
Several EU states, including Ireland and Spain, have called for a review of the EU's ties with Israel, especially in light of civilian casualties and forced displacement in Gaza.
The EU-Israel Association Agreement mandates that relations are based on respect for human rights and democratic principles, which Borrell believes are currently being violated.
Despite Borrell's proposal, it appears unlikely to move forward as unanimous agreement from all EU member states is needed, and Hungary and the Czech Republic support Israel.
