Wind advisory in place for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area for Sunday
"According to the NWS Reno NV, Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage."
"When it comes to high wind alerts, understanding the levels of risk is crucial. The NWS classifies them into three distinct categories: High wind warning: Take action! Sustained, strong winds with even stronger gusts are happening. Seek shelter. If you are driving, keep both hands on the wheel and slow down. Wind advisory: Take action! Strong winds are occurring but are not so strong as to warrant a High wind warning. Objects that are outdoors should be secured and caution should be taken if driving."
National Weather Service issued a wind advisory valid Sunday, Oct. 26, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for the Greater Lake Tahoe Area. Residents should secure loose outdoor items like patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase. Prepare extra food, water, flashlights, spare batteries, and candles in case of power outages. Consider postponing boating on the lake until calmer conditions. Understand NWS wind alert levels: High wind warning requires shelter and caution while driving; wind advisory calls for securing objects; high wind watch advises preparedness. Trim tree branches, secure gutters and shutters, identify interior shelter, and charge essential batteries.
