A modest low-pressure system from the Northwest produced uncommon September rainfall across parts of the Bay Area, with the heaviest amounts in the North Bay and some coastal hills and peaks. The brief showers helped clear smoke and temporarily reduced local wildfire risk for several days. September normally ranks among the driest months in the region, with San Francisco averaging about 0.10 inches and only about 1.2 rainy days in the month. Local measured totals ranged from over half an inch in Calistoga to near zero in central and southern urban areas. Higher rains occurred between the Greater Bay Area and the Oregon border.
