Can you help with the Big Butterfly Count?
Briefly

Butterfly surveys indicate a severe decline among UK butterflies, prompting urgent concern and the declaration of a British butterfly emergency. Last year's survey recorded the worst statistics for several species, including a decline in many popular butterflies. Specifically, small tortoiseshell populations decreased by 88%, and overall, 31 species are in long-term decline. The recent butterfly count saw a drop in sightings, with participants averaging just seven butterflies per 15-minute observation. As a result, Butterfly Conservation is requesting more volunteers to help monitor and assess the situation in the upcoming count.
Last year was the worst ever for small tortoiseshell, chalkhill blue and small copper, with 51 of the UK's 60 species declining over time.
This survey revealed that nine species suffered their worst year since counting began in 1976, highlighting significant declines in butterfly populations.
