Eddie Howe stated that Newcastle will not appeal Anthony Gordon's red card from the FA Cup match against Brighton, as there was 'not sufficient ground' for appeal. Gordon's sending off—after a push at van Hecke—means he will miss three crucial matches, including the EFL Cup final against Liverpool. Despite being a top performer for Newcastle, Howe emphasized the importance of assessing the success chances of any appeal, which influenced their decision not to contest Gordon's ban. Additionally, injuries are mounting for the team, as defender Sven Botman will be sidelined for eight weeks.
There was no intention from Anthony. He didn't mean to hurt anybody. But, you have to look at it and ask if there is any chance of being successful and if there is no chance, then what is the point of appealing and Anthony understands that.
It's always a discussion point, and we discussed it with a club with the respective people we needed to discuss it with - lawyers etc - and we felt there wasn't sufficient grounds to do that.
