Ruben Amorim, at just 39 years old, is highly regarded as one of Europe's best young coaches, leading Sporting Lisbon to two league titles.
United sacked Erik ten Hag and are now considering Amorim, who previously turned down opportunities from West Ham and was linked to Liverpool.
Amorim is known for his ability to nurture young talent and has helped experienced players reach their peak performance levels.
Other managerial candidates include Brentford's Thomas Frank and former England manager Gareth Southgate, but Amorim appears to be the frontrunner.
