What Teachers Think Might Prevent School Shootings

This year, there have been at least 50 shootings on school grounds, causing 16 deaths. More than half of public-school K-12 teachers are worried about a shooting in their workplace, with many feeling ill-prepared and lacking armed guards.
About 25% of teachers reported their school had at least one gun-related lockdown in the last year, and 15% had more than one. Urban high school teachers expressed the highest likelihood of experiencing lockdowns and feeling ill-prepared.
Most teachers do not support staff carrying concealed weapons in schools, with 70% disagreeing that it's the answer. Instead, 69% believe that improving mental health screening and treatment could help prevent shootings.
