"People really don't understand that social media is where teenagers exist most of the time now outside of school hours, and you're trying to coax them away from it at times,"
"For Health Week, which was captured by Tyrone Productions [for the Virgin Media programme], we don't just look at physical health, we also talk about mental health and how what you do online impacts you,"
"I really feel that at times, teenagers get really bad press and I want people to see the kindness of kids at the moment - there's savage kindness among this group of teenagers,"
"We're serious about care - we're serious about resilience and building students up, and preparing them to walk out into the world in six years' time."
Carrigaline Community School integrates digital media literacy and Health Week lessons to address how online activity affects teenagers' mental and physical wellbeing. Science teacher and social-media creator Tadgh O'Donovan stresses that social media now dominates teenagers' lives outside school and calls for education on online safeguarding. The series was filmed over a year and follows staff and selected students in 2025, including a former school drop-out and a pupil pursuing a role in a transition-year musical. Principal Paul Burke highlights a school of 1,100 pupils from 45 nationalities focused on care, resilience, kindness, and preparing students for life beyond school.
