Stanford faces backlash after 23 lecturers from popular program let go
Briefly

According to an announcement on the creative writing program's website, university faculty and leadership have been discussing changes to the program for two years and landed on this decision in an attempt to restore the original intent of the Jones Lectureship, which was designed with lecture positions lasting one year with the possibility of renewal.
Many students and the lecturers have responded to this decision with anger and energy, signing an open petition, writing letters to the university administration and voicing frustration online.
The professors were in the Zoom meeting, and they were absolutely silent. One of them literally had real palm trees in the background, like he's sitting in some island paradise while our careers are being ruined.
The Jones Lectureships are not being eliminated; they are only being term limited, as was the original intent of the program, so that the Stegner Fellows have an opportunity to teach Creative Writing courses at Stanford.
