South Boston special education teacher named Mass. Teacher of the Year

"My students, you are the reason I do this work. I love you. Your curiosity and willingness to learn motivate me to be a better teacher," Luisa Sparrow said, expressing her deep commitment and affection for her students.
"When I first accepted this job, people kept telling me things like, 'Wow, you're so lucky that you'll be working there.' All those people were right," Sparrow remarked, highlighting her passion for her role and the importance of her work in the community.
Sparrow, who has dedicated 16 years to teaching, including eight at the Perry School, emphasizes the significance of inclusion and accessibility in education with her initiatives, such as the inclusive cooking club.
"I look forward to representing the teachers of Massachusetts over the next year and shining a light on the essential work that we all do," said Sparrow, demonstrating her commitment to advocacy for educators.
