"I was able to work and go to school at the same time. And also, not only that, I didn't have to come on my pocket to pay anything," said Thomas, who received her certification from Reach University, which has more than 2,000 candidates across 343 school districts. "What I learned in class I was able to bring to my classroom, and vice versa."
"Teaching is a gift. And it's got to come from the heart," says Thomas. "I saw the need and chose to work in a school, even though my salary was probably half of what I'm making now."
"We need Gwens that are willing to commit to teaching despite the challenges and be nurturers in the classroom; they are essential for our children's success," stated U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
