San Jose Unified approves controversial assistant principal
Briefly

San Jose Unified School District's board appointed Joseph Heffernan as the new assistant principal at San Jose High amid public outcry and allegations of racism from his prior tenure. The decision was contentious, with a split 3-2 vote. Parents, students, and community members expressed concerns over Heffernan's alleged hostile behavior toward minorities and women. Many called for investigations into the claims, yet the board moved forward regardless of the public's vocal opposition. The situation highlights ongoing tensions and the community’s demand for accountability in school leadership decisions.
More than 80 Lincoln High teachers and staff sent a letter to Superintendent Nancy Albarran earlier this year imploring her to investigate Heffernan and his behavior toward students.
It's extremely painful. Many stories of pain were shared and they didn't hear it. It did not influence them at all. It is despicable that these are our elected leaders.
