The Independent Schools Council is set to challenge the government's new VAT on private school fees, citing potential discrimination against families who choose independent education.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves stated the VAT measures will generate significant funds to enhance state education, with projections of £460 million next year and £1.7 billion by 2029/30.
The legal challenge will focus on potential breaches of the European Convention on Human Rights, particularly concerning the rights to education and prohibition of discrimination.
Julie Robinson, Chief Executive of ISC, emphasized the importance of defending the rights of families who may be forced out of independent education due to the new VAT.
