New York police removed a pro-Palestinian protest encampment at Columbia University on Thursday and arrested more than 100 demonstrators, including the daughter of a prominent Minnesota congresswoman.
Omar had questioned Columbia's president, Nemat Shafik, at a hearing Wednesday in Congress about the school's targeting of pro-Palestinian protesters.
Students were suspended for violating university policies. The protest aimed to oppose Israeli military action in Gaza and demand divestment from companies profiting from Israeli apartheid.
Columbia University warned protesters of potential suspension if they didn't remove the encampment. School officials decided to involve police to clear the demonstrators of various rules violations.
