Steve Randazzo, chief growth officer for BusPatrol, highlighted the effectiveness of the license plate reading cameras, noting they can capture violations across eight lanes of traffic, significantly enhancing enforcement of school bus stop laws.
"There have been numerous accidents nationwide where children have been struck while exiting a bus, and children have been injured; it's a huge safety concern," emphasized detective Andre Martin, stressing the importance of the new enforcement initiative.
With 950 school buses equipped with stop-arm cameras, Miami-Dade schools have issued over 11,500 citations in just 13 days, reinforcing the necessity of this safety measure.
The collaborative enforcement initiative between Miami-Dade County Public Schools, the Miami-Dade Police Department, and BusPatrol aims to increase safety for students interacting with school buses through high-resolution AI technology and strict fines.
