Jeremy Corbyn says damage from school closures will be 'irreversible'
Briefly

Islington Council intends to close St Jude's, St Paul's, and Highbury Quadrant primary schools because of a notable decline in pupil enrollments, attributed to falling birth rates and families moving out. The council argues that lower pupil numbers result in decreased funding, hence the need for resource pooling. However, local MP Jeremy Corbyn criticizes this decision, emphasizing the lasting negative effects on the community and suggesting that the closure could hinder future educational opportunities if birth rates rebound. He also points to socioeconomic factors influencing school attendance.
The damage done to a community taking a school away is irreversible. Once a school is closed you are not going to get another school out of it. They should be thinking long term not this ultra short termism.
Parents of both schools strongly objected to the closure and in my submissions I made the points that both schools are an essential and integral part of the community, and if you close those schools where are the children going to go?
