Vivian Ventura, the Southwood Middle School Orchestra Director, received the prestigious 2026 Francisco R. Walker Teacher of the Year award at a celebratory banquet. Honored for her commitment to public education, she emphasized the collaborative nature of teaching and drew inspiration from Beethoven's resilience as an enduring message of hope and unity. Ventura won a 2025 Toyota Corolla and a cash prize, and her son's proud shout during the award announcement highlighted the significance of her achievement in the community.
"I believe in public schools, I am going to fight for you in every way that I can," said Ventura.
"It is clear that teaching is a collective effort, and I am honored to stand among you," she said.
"Beethoven's resilience is a testament to hope, unity, and brotherhood...in the face of diversity, we can achieve amazing things."
Ventura, an accomplished musician and orchestra teacher, received a 2025 Toyota Corolla, a $3,500 cash prize, and a gift basket.
