Healey intervenes in Newton teachers strike; talks last through the night to no avail

A pleading was filed Thursday afternoon by the Department of Labor Relations at Healey's request. It asks Middlesex Superior Court to hold twice-daily status conferences requiring both sides to give constant updates to the court and to the public about the state of negotiations.
"It is unacceptable that school has been closed for two weeks in Newton due to the ongoing strike," Tutwiler said in a statement. "Our focus is on keeping kids in school, making sure they receive a high-quality education and supporting our hardworking educators. We need our students back in the classroom now."
