"Gloucester educators are excited to return back to school Monday morning with a strong and fair contract that ensures our students have the best learning conditions possible," said Union of Gloucester Educators co-presidents Rachel Salvo Rex and Maryann Aiello. They highlighted that the agreement represents a significant victory for educators and was unanimously ratified by the union.
School Committee Chair Kathy Clancy confirmed the deal includes increases to paraprofessional and teacher pay, as well as new paid parental leave. She emphasized the contracts reflect a deep commitment and respect for educators, marking a substantial investment in public education in Gloucester.
Salvo Rex and Aiello articulated that the contract represents some of the greatest victories Gloucester educators have seen in decades, particularly noting the seven-week fully paid parental leave benefit and the average 14% wage increase over the four years.
The agreement was described as not just a victory for educators but for the entire community, emphasizing the collaborative effort involved in the negotiations and the importance of supporting educators for the benefit of students.
