The college admissions process has become increasingly ghastly. Gone are the days when one could apply to a handful of schools and expect acceptance.
In the past 20 years, national university tuition and fees have skyrocketed, in-state tuition at public universities has increased by about 133%, leaving many families reeling.
The Master Plan for Higher Education introduced by Gov. Pat Brown was pivotal for many families, including mine, in accessing college opportunities and shaping futures.
Now, most counselors suggest that students apply to at least 10 colleges, reflecting the high-stress environment and competitive nature of college admissions today.
