Students in Belgium and the Netherlands have joined the wave of protests against Israel's war on Gaza, occupying parts of universities and demanding an end to partnerships with Israeli institutions.
At the University of Amsterdam, students set up a camp, playing in drum circles, and barricading access with wooden pallets, while in Ghent University, students chanted against the occupation and demanded an end to research collaboration with Israel.
University spokespersons expressed mixed reactions, with UvA condoning the protest during the day but warning against overnight stays, and UGent's rector stating that while they do not give permission for building occupations, there are general frameworks in place for such situations.
