All Hallows High School has made a historic move by admitting female students for the first time in its 116-year history, driven by community needs.
President Ron Schutte emphasized the urgency to support young women affected by the closure of St. Barnabas, saying, 'Why not reach out to these girls and see what we can do to help them during this traumatic time?'
The decision to go coed also addressed declining enrollment among young men, as many cannot afford tuition despite it being the most affordable in the area.
The trend of school closures in New York has intensified, with 12 schools closed by the Archdiocese of New York in 2023, primarily affecting the Bronx.
