As negotiations stall, educators across Beverly, Gloucester, and Marblehead are expressing frustration over the lack of good faith bargaining by local school committees, claiming school leaders are misleading families about the strike.
BTA co-president Julia Brotherton stated, 'Two of these districts, Beverly and Marblehead, employ the same anti-union law firm. It seems clear that, on the advice of that firm, all three districts are deliberately stalling to punish educators and to send a message to other workers.'
Marblehead speech pathologist and mother Kaleigh Balestrieri argued, 'The reality is, we're asking for something reasonable and humane. We should not have to choose between being the educators our students need and the parents our children deserve.'
Currently, Marblehead teachers receive only 12 days of paid parental leave, with additional unpaid time available under certain conditions. The union's proposal requests eight weeks of paid leave to ensure better support for educators.
