Oakland Airport has reached a settlement regarding community noise, air quality, and traffic complaints just before a potential litigation. The Port of Oakland will decrease noise pollution and implement an official OAK Noise Plan as part of the agreement with the city of Alameda and Citizens League for Airport Safety and Serenity (CLASS). This enables the long-awaited expansion of the airport, including the construction of a new terminal with 16 gates. The settlement comes after community criticism of the environmental impact report and ongoing negotiations aimed at minimizing disruption to local residents.
The recent settlement between Oakland Airport, the city of Alameda, and the Citizens League for Airport Safety and Serenity will facilitate a major expansion while addressing community concerns.
Jon Hamilton, CLASS President, stated, 'We are pleased that there will now be an official OAK Noise Plan setting forth the Port's commitments to address noise impacts from flights over our communities.'
