Vacancy rates for affordable units below $2,400 a month are low, exacerbating the shortage of suitable housing options for families in need of larger living spaces. "It sounds really great to maximize the number of [affordable] units that you build, but oftentimes you do that at the expense of two- and three-bedroom apartments," said City Council member Eric Dinowitz.
