Several East Bay restaurants ceased operations between February and March 2026. Alley Yokocho Kitchens, a Japanese alley dining establishment near UC Berkeley, closed after serving tonkotsu ramen and chirashi bowls. Olfactory Brewing's Berkeley taproom shut down following the closure of its San Francisco location due to unsustainable operating costs. Mt. Agni, specializing in Nepali, Himalayan, and Indian cuisine, closed on Berkeley's north side. Vietnam House, a Vietnamese restaurant offering sandwiches and noodle soups, closed and was replaced by Gusto, an Algerian halal restaurant. Knudsen's, a Castro Valley ice cream and burger establishment operating for 20 years, also announced closure.
