Cafe Brusco brings house-made bagels with a seasonal edge to University Avenue
"On University Avenue, the corner of Milvia Street stands out: Blue double doors stand wide open, with yellow patio furniture speckling the gray concrete sidewalk. Soft music and the whir of a coffee grinder fill the silence between the sounds of passing traffic. A line of customers stand on a black and white checkered floor, most of whom are gazing at the ruby red bottles of wine along the wall or perusing the cafe's menu,"
"Alexis Rorabaugh and Gerad Gobel, the husband and wife team behind Berkeley's Rose Pizzeria, opened the doors to Cafe Brusco Sept. 17, offering bagels with both sweet and savory options and drip coffee, espresso drinks, tea and wine. Berkeley and Oakland have seen an influx of new bagel shops popping up in the past few years. But, if Cafe Brusco's debut and early popularity are any indication, the East Bay still has room for another quality bagel,"
On University Avenue at Milvia Street, a cafe features blue double doors, yellow patio furniture, soft music and the whir of a coffee grinder. Customers stand on a black-and-white checkered floor, eyeing ruby red wine bottles and a menu that includes sesame and fennel bagels with various spreads. Alexis Rorabaugh and Gerad Gobel opened Cafe Brusco on Sept. 17, offering sweet and savory bagels alongside drip coffee, espresso, tea and wine. The corner was chosen for limited nearby coffee options. Bagels became central after hiring baker Chris Warden, who brings extensive artisanal baking experience. The East Bay market continues to support new bagel shops.
