Berkeley curry spot quickly replaced, a plant-based meal service shutters, and more closures

Narwal Urban Village opened at the former House of Curries address at 3136 Sacramento St. in Berkeley, while the College Avenue Berkeley location and the Solano Avenue Albany location of House of Curries remained open. Planted Table, a Bay Area plant-based food delivery service operating out of Jack London Square, shuttered after more than eight years. The company cited rising costs of food and utilities as making operations impossible to sustain. The founders said it was not goodbye and planned ideas for a next version. Special Noodle closed its Richmond location at Pacific East Mall after four years, with the restaurant listed as closed and its phone disconnected. The menu centered on noodle soups and dumplings.

"Planted Table, which operated out of Jack London Square, left a message on its website that states, in part: The cost of food and utilities has gone up so dramatically over the years that it has become impossible to keep up. Planted Table was open for over eight years and served chef-made, zero-waste vegan meals to many homes throughout the Bay Area. It was founded by Chef Lauren Mahlke and her sister, Megan Scott."
