At Lucuma, anticuchos de corazon marry traditional Peruvian cuisine with Californian flair
"A large straw octopus, handmade in Cusco, peers quizzically from its perch above the blue kit-kat tiled bar. (It's joined by several floating fish of the same material.) A quipu a tool the Incas used to communicate through knotted strings is suspended in mid-air over the host stand like a jellyfish, and a row of snake plants extending upwards from an eggshell-blue potting gives the illusion of traversing over the sea floor."
"Upon entry, it becomes clear that Lucuma is a feast for all five senses. It's teeming with life, as evidenced by the many patrons snacking on ceviches and crispy camarones throughout the restaurant. But the space itself could very well be mistaken for some kind of underwater dreamscape where the Pisco punch is free-flowing. 1700 Franklin St., Oakland; www.lucumakitchen.com Open Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Sundays 10 a.m. to 9 p.m."
Lucuma is a modern Peruvian restaurant in Downtown Oakland that delivers a multisensory dining experience marked by vibrant visual design and lively atmosphere. Handmade decorative elements, coastal-inspired motifs and bold turquoise accents create an underwater dreamscape feeling around a blue kit-kat tiled bar and velvety green seating. The menu focuses on Peruvian dishes such as ceviches and crispy camarones, developed by cofounders Garrett Morris and Renzo Roca. The couple led both menu and interior design work and opened the restaurant after a five-month development period. The restaurant operates daily with extended weekend hours.
