In Oakland, seniors from a local living facility protested against potential cuts to Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare, expressing their desire for a better future for younger generations. Many older participants reflected on their historical experiences with protests, driven by a commitment to safeguard benefits they believe they have rightfully earned. The demonstration was spurred by fears regarding the Trump administration's proposed spending cuts, with seniors vocalizing their frustration about losing essential services, emphasizing that they want to ensure educational and familial stability for their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
I'm participating because I have 15 great-grandchildren. I want them to inherit a world where education opportunities and 'family unity' are not hard to come by.
We've all paid for it - it's not a gift! We've worked for those benefits, and we deserve to protect what we've earned.
But [Trump] is totally unqualified. We all want to do what we can.
I'm a marcher since Vietnam. It's our duty to stand up for future generations.
