A fire broke out early Saturday inside a building in East Flatbush. A 911 call reported smoke and fire at 1693 Nostrand Ave. at 6:49 a.m., located between Beverly and Cortelyou roads. The fire was on the second floor of a three-story mixed-occupancy building. Four people were found inside. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others sustained serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 7:38 a.m. The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
