Saratoga resident defrauded out of $1.2 million by phony foreign consulate rep

Burglary incidents reported in Saratoga included theft from a storage unit and a residence undergoing fumigation. A significant theft involving fraudulent cryptocurrency investment resulted in a loss of approximately $30,000. Additional incidents included criminal threats made at a residential disturbance and a stolen vehicle pursuit resulting in an arrest. The vehicle was stolen prior from San Jose. Both fraud cases involved perpetrators impersonating officials or investors to deceive victims and extract funds.
A Saratoga resident reported that someone contacted them on a messaging platform, posed as a cryptocurrency investor, and ultimately convinced the victim to invest money in a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme for a total loss of about $30,000.
Between July 25 and 27, someone entered a residence that was tented for fumigation in the 18000 block of Baylor Avenue by cutting the tent and then entering through an open window. The suspect(s) stole an unknown amount of cash and jewelry.
