Omar Torres, a former San Jose city councilman, who recently faced charges for sexually abusing an underage relative in the 1990s, is attempting to negotiate a plea deal. Torres, who resigned just prior to his arrest on November 5, has been charged with multiple felony counts related to child sexual assault. His defense attorney indicated Torres's desire to take responsibility and reach a resolution without going to trial, with a plea hearing set to continue discussions between his counsel and the prosecution.
Omar has demonstrated from the beginning that he wants to take responsibility and bring peace to the lives of those that he has affected.
We are always open to discussing a reasonable settlement.
