The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for the Berkeley and Oakland hills due to a combination of strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures.
The excessive heat warning has been extended through 11 p.m. Saturday, as the heat is "just staying stagnant over us" with no other weather systems around to push it out.
The NWS issues a red flag warning whenever conditions are ripe for wildfires. All the signs are present: Hot, dry and windy weather.
The greatest risk for fire will be overnight between Friday and Saturday, according to Berkeley Fire's AC Alert for the red flag warning.
