'He really wanted to change East Oakland': Death of Castlemont teacher leaves school community reeling
Briefly

On the morning of Castlemont's graduation, students and faculty reflected on the legacy of Marvin Boomer, a beloved math teacher and Linked Learning pathway coach. Following his death during a police chase, the community mobilized to maintain the campus while contemplating his influential role in promoting sustainable design and career readiness. Boomer aimed to inspire students to pursue pathways like design and health equity, leaving a lasting impact through projects at the school's Fab Lab and farm, which blend education with practical skills for real-world careers.
I would love to see young people choosing Castlemont because of the pathways. I would love to see some people saying, 'I want to go there because I want to be a designer, or a community health worker, or a social worker.'
What seems fitting is to put your hands in the soil. I'm just grateful to know people like him exist on the planet and that he was here.
